He was the first prime minister of Japan and had a profound impact on the modernization of Japan. However, his role in Korea is much more controversial. In this article, we will explore the life and legacy of Hirobumi Ito, including his impact on Korea and the negative effects of his policies. Early Life Hirobumi Ito was born in 1841 in Choshu, Japan. He was the son of a samurai and received a traditional education in the Confucian classics. In 1863, he became involved in the movement to expel foreigners from Japan, but soon realized that this was not a viable solution for Japan's problems. Instead, he began advocating for the modernization of Japan through the adoption of Western technology and institutions. Political Career in Japan Ito's political career began in 1871 when he was appointed governor of Hyogo prefecture.
