  The Remington M24 Sniper Weapon System (SWS) is a precision bolt-action sniper rifle designed and manufactured by Remington Arms. The M24 has been in service with the U.S. Army since the 1980s, and has proven to be a highly effective weapon system in a wide range of combat scenarios. The M24 SWS was first developed in the 1980s as a replacement for the aging M21 Sniper Weapon System, which was based on the M14 rifle. The M24 was specifically designed to meet the Army's requirements for a highly accurate, reliable, and durable sniper rifle that could be used in a variety of environments and conditions. To create the M24, Remington Arms took its existing Model 700 hunting rifle and modified it to meet the Army's specifications.
