In the 1960s and 1970s, the U.S. Navy was facing an increasing threat from these types of weapons, and there was a need for a system that could detect and engage them quickly and effectively. The development of the Phalanx system began in the early 1970s, and the first prototype was delivered to the Navy in 1977. The system underwent several rounds of
