The stabbing murder in Andong entertainment district, South Korea, in 2022

 At around 2:30 a.m. on July 4, 2022, a 23-year-old college student man who came on a tour at a bar near the Fine Building in Ok-dong, Andong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, was reportedly killed after being quarreled by an ignorant 21-year-old suspect. However, due to the perpetrator's claim, the perpetrator was misunderstood as being assaulted until the trial result was released.

At around 00:25 a.m. on July 4, 2022, a group of five college students, including 23-year-old A, were drinking together at a bar near the Fine Building in Ok-dong, Andong-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. They came to Andong from Pohang to enjoy water leisure at the university on vacation. At the same time, Kim (21-year-old male) was drinking while waiting for his friend at the same bar. Kim argued with A and his party, saying, "Why are you looking?" Kim is known to have deliberately bumped his shoulder to cause friction with other guests at the same place before. Kim has a history of being protected from juvenile protection several times for committing crimes even as a boy.

As a result, a fight broke out between Kim and A's party. Kim's girlfriend tried to calm Kim down, but Kim continued to pick a fight with A's group, and after losing the fight, Kim bought scissors at a convenience store and threatened A's group.

Due to the mediation of the police and Kim's female friend, who were dispatched after receiving a report, they reconciled and drank together. However, when A, who witnessed Kim hitting his girlfriend, made a statement to the police, Kim felt anger toward A, a college student.

Kim went outside despite opposition from his girlfriend and other acquaintances who stopped him from fighting. And without returning home, Kim purchased an industrial cutter knife at another convenience store and approached A's group. Mr. A and his group tried to move to another bar, but they stood in front of them to prevent Kim's approach. At that time, Mr. Kim cut Mr. A's neck several times with a cutter knife, and Mr. A, who suffered a fatal wound, died of excessive bleeding at the scene.

News North Gyeongsang Province reported eyewitness accounts, attaching photos of the incident. Witness B testified, "I stopped Kim from getting drunk and having a quarrel with others, and advised him to soothe Kim and go home around 1:50 a.m. on the day of the incident." Witness C testified, "The police were dispatched about an hour before the incident, and the problem was resolved at the scene." However, the testimony of B and C has not yet been reported in the domestic media.

According to the CCTV footage, in the video, A, wearing shorts, continued to push Kim in red, and Kim, who was pushed back, stabbed A in the neck in an instant with a knife, causing about 10cm of wounds. Mr. A, who was stabbed, collapsed bleeding about 10 seconds later.[2] Mr. A's companions, who collapsed with blood, were embarrassed and shrunk, and Mr. Kim left the scene after watching them quietly (#, #). In the video, it was confirmed that Kim took off his top, and it was revealed that Kim took off his top himself.

The woman, who was working as a nurse who was passing near the scene of the incident, attempted hemostasis and CPR on A, but she did not recover consciousness and died of excessive bleeding before the ambulance arrived. Police are confirming the time of death at 2:31.

Kim ran away after the crime, but the confrontation continued as he protested the police's pursuit near the apartment complex about 400m away. Since Kim was drunk, the police could not investigate until about 12 hours later, and Kim claimed that he had no memory.

And on the afternoon of July 6, two days after the incident, the above CCTV video spread to the Internet community and portal without mosaic processing, making headlines. As a result, groundless speculations continued to emerge about the jobs of the perpetrator Kim and victim A, especially the speculation that "Kim is a butcher working at a meat restaurant, and A is a gangster" has spread widely spread. However, G Meat Restaurant, which was mentioned as Kim's place of work, expressed unfairness in an article posted on Andong's social media, saying, "The rumor that G Meat Restaurant's second son (Kim) is the perpetrator is now accepted as true, and it is too unfair that we have nothing to do with this case." It also declared that it would seek legal action to find a false spreader (#, #).

The police also refuted the rumor. The police explained, "There is a rumor online that the perpetrator is a butcher and the victim is a gangster, which is not true," adding, "The suspect accidentally stopped the crime due to a quarrel with a man sitting next to him while ordinary college students came to Andong to drink." He also said, "A and his group were identified as college students, and it was confirmed that the perpetrator Kim was not a worker in the slaughter-related industry." However, it has been confirmed that Kim works related to slaughter.

At the beginning of the incident, due to incorrect information, the victim was mistaken for a person working as a gangster in Pohang, and the perpetrator was mistaken for a butcher. At the time, the victim's group used threatening words and actions like gangsters seen in movies and YouTube, especially with threatening tattoos on their bodies. In reality, however, the victims and their group were college students who had nothing to do with organized violence. Kim, the perpetrator, was initially misunderstood as a butcher because of his use of a knife, but he was actually an ordinary person.

Some large communities are focusing on the fact that the roles of perpetrators and victims have been reversed at first. In fact, Mr. A picked a fight with Mr. Kim first, and Mr. A's group unilaterally assaulted Mr. Kim for more than an hour. Therefore, articles criticizing the victims and their party who assaulted Kim for more than an hour and comments sympathizing with him were posted as popular articles. Of course, Kim is a felon who committed murder and murder using a weapon. However, most of the public opinion is difficult to sympathize with the fact that the murdered victim A and his party looked at Kim in a bad mood from the beginning, continuously threatening words and actions, and brutally assaulted him for more than an hour [3].

However, the prosecution seems to have taken into account the aforementioned opinions, and the prosecution explained an important part of the final statement of opinion regarding the "secondary harm" inflicted on the victim's family. We revealed different aspects one by one from the facts based on the investigation results.

The prosecution said, "If you search for this case on Naver, there are many articles in the media and various communities," adding, "We will edit only the parts written as news, not just community articles, to report on the actual contents."

He also said, "In fact, the police returned after talking only to the Defendant without even giving a warning," adding, "The Defendant Kim argued with Victim A, was assaulted again, and there was an article that the Victims followed Kim, undressed him, assaulted him for more than an hour." "The media also wrote the wrong news because the defendant actually made this claim," he explained.

In addition, "There was no mass assault on the victim, and the Defendant took off his clothes on his own, and there was no assault or harassment on the Defendant for more than an hour. The Defendant went around freely, and despite the restriction of his acquaintances, he continued to visit the victim's group. "The claim that the victim was a criminal such as a 'Pohang gangster' is also different from the truth. The victim is a completely clean, ordinary college student with no criminal history or investigation records."

On January 18, 2023, Kim was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the public participation trial, and on May 25, 2023, the lower court was reversed in the second trial and sentenced to 18 years in prison.
