On January 12, 2022, at 9 p.m., a 27-year-old woman was killed in a studio apartment in Seobuk-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungcheongnam-do after receiving a farewell notice from Cho Hyun-jin. This woman was previously dating Cho Hyun-jin but was notified of her breakup. On January 12, Cho Hyun-jin bought a weapon at a convenience store and entered a studio in Seongjeong-dong, Seobuk-gu, Cheonan-si, where the woman lives. There, Cho Hyun-jin locked the bathroom door and quarreled with the victim, stabbed her with a weapon at 9:40 p.m. and left there. The victim was with her mother in a studio apartment. Cho Hyun-jin took the victim to the bathroom and committed a vicious crime of stabbing him, saying, "I have one last thing to say." Later, the victim was taken to a hospital, but eventually died. The victim was the wife of the perpetrator, who was preparing for a divorce due to domestic violence, when he killed her with a one-meter Japanese sword, also known as a katana. According to the victim's friend, who posted the incident on Natefan at 11 a.m. on September 6, the background of the case dates back to 2016, when the victim had an affair with the perpetrator's close friend, leading to serious marital problems.
