2022 Murder of Mother and Daughter in Busan, South Korea

The incident occurred at 12:50 p.m. in a villa in Yangjeong-dong, where a middle school student D was sleeping in another room, and found his mother B and his high school sister C, who died on charges of six murders. Mr. D reported to the police with the help of the neighbor's owner.

At the time the police were dispatched and found, B was stabbed with a weapon, and C was found to have bruises and strangled. D stated, "When I woke up, my mother died in the living room and my sister died in the room."

At first, the police concluded that the victims were suicidal because they suffered from hardships and there were no signs of outside intrusion. However, the police investigated the possibility of murder, suspecting that 6 million won of precious metal disappeared from the dead mother's body, that her daughter's cell phone was found in the surrounding sewer five days after the incident, and that the same substance was found in the body of the deceased mother and her son.

According to the media, the victims were known to have suffered from hardships, but they did not seem to feel much pressure ordering delivery food (there was a recording of a call to order delivery food and have a drink with Miss C just before the murder). According to an initial investigation by the police, there was a stab wound between the dead mother's neck and chin, but it was not a fatal wound, other wounds were found, and the posture at the time of death was different from general suicide. There was no problem with the initial investigation, but there is a possibility that the news was caused by a problem during the investigation or the suspect's failure to deliver accurate information due to fleeing or taking his own life. C's cell phone was found in the surrounding sewer a few days after the incident, and it was found after checking CCTV that A threw something away and investigating all the surrounding garbage. In addition, through the statements and SNS of D's friend who showed abnormal physical reactions and C's friend who did not show a normal response during the messenger conversation with C, it was found that an unusual incident occurred in the entire family. In addition, traces of damage to the site were found by wiping away a weapon believed to be a kitchen knife and beer that someone other than B drank.

The police identified a woman in her 50s as a suspect in the murder of a villa in Yangjeong-dong, Busanjin-gu, on September 12, 2022. The police confirmed that A entered the house after the victims as a result of CCTV checks around the villa, and judged A as a strong suspect based on testimony that her daughter, C, could not see A. However, Ms. C ordered delivery food from her mother, Mr. B, and went home, and after that, the delivery food arrived after Mr. A and Mr. B entered. Mr. A lied even though he could see Ms. C. The police raised the possibility that Mr. A killed him using drugs prescribed by the hospital.

In a police investigation, A found a small mortar grinding garlic and traces of drugs in his bag. Also, we confirmed that the jewelry that Mr. A presented to his daughter was that of Victim C. During the investigation, A was confirmed to have a history of special threats, refusal to comply with eviction, assault, and injury. On November 25, 2022, an arrest warrant was applied to A for murder and drug management violations due to concerns over the destruction of evidence, and A was arrested that day.

Mr. A's motive was extortion of money and valuables. Mr. A was struggling financially, such as failing to pay electricity bills, and it was such a difficult situation that he could not even repay the money he borrowed from his family. At this time, Mr. A had the intention of killing people for money, and it is known that he made such remarks. This was a more serious situation than it was thought to have simply been harsh on words. About 25 days before the incident, there was a case in which another victim was robbed of money and valuables after drinking balloon flower water with psychiatric drugs in the same method, and this victim's statement was of great help to the investigation.

In the first trial, the prosecution demanded the death penalty for A, and the Busan District Court's Criminal Division 6 (Chief Judge Kim Tae-up) sentenced him to life in prison.
