In 2022, South Korea's Gwangmyeong Three Maternal and Child Murder in which Father Killed a Family
On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, in an apartment in Soha-dong, Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi-do, A (45 years old at the time) killed his wife B (42 years old at the time) and his two sons (15 years old and 10 years old at the time).
Immediately after the murder, A went to a PC room, watched an animation, and returned home at around 11:27 p.m. and reported to 119 that his family was dead.
Paramedics and police who received the report confirmed that there were no signs of outside intrusion, and found a weapon used in the murder and clothes worn at the time of the crime, and said A confessed to the crime.
According to the testimony of the neighbors, he testified that he heard a thumping sound that was not normally heard at the time of the crime.
The police suspect that A secretly threw away the weapon and clothes he wore at the time of the crime after fleeing through a window next to the emergency stairs at the front door of the apartment, which is a blind spot of CCTV, shortly after the crime. In addition, he said he plans to secure the cell phones of A and the victims, conduct a forensic investigation, and apply for an arrest warrant.
The motive for the crime was the outrage that Mr. A had a divorce-related conversation with his wife on the day of the crime and demanded that his wife get along with his eldest son, a middle school student, on the condition that he would not divorce. The eldest son claimed that he did not want to live with his father, and A was angry and committed the crime. The wife, who went down to the first floor due to her husband's inducement, witnessed her husband killing her son after returning, and was killed together while trying to cover her son without taking off her shoes. The second son, an elementary school student, was also reportedly killed for witnessing the crime scene.
Prior to the incident, A had been unemployed for about a year due to health reasons, and his wife worked alone and inherited the household.
After being arrested for the first time, A sobbed, saying he was sorry, but he met with reporters again two days later and admitted that he had done wrong. He confessed that he had planned the crime two or three days in advance. But when asked about his family feud, he said, "I lost my memory eight years ago. I got COVID-19 this time, so I remembered. My mother was abandoned, and I think it's because I'm working like an ATM machine and getting a little angry. I'm sorry,' he said to himself, making a confused remark. A police official explained that A's "eight years ago" remarks had little to do with the crime, and experts analyzed that these remarks could be a strategy to reduce the sentence.
In this case, the cell phone of the eldest son was the solution. The eldest son had about 30 files that recorded his father's domestic violence over a long period of time. The recording of my eldest son began three weeks before the incident. The 14-minute file contained the voice of Mr. A, who was angry. "Why did you wear my slippers without permission?Starting with the same nagging, verbal abuse such as "I can't do anything to that punk" and "I can't forgive you even if I die, you punk." The son remained silent whenever the verbal abuse continued.
Even on the day the three left, his son's cell phone recorded his father's abuse and murder. The recording lasted about 15 hours, from about three hours before the harrowing incident until police found the cell phone the next morning and pressed the stop button.
A stabbed his eldest son with his weapon and said, "I'm going to die, right? That's right!" he replied to himself. And he was annoyed at his eldest son, who was holding his life, saying, "Why aren't you dying like this?" There was also a recording of his wife's howl at the sight of his eldest son, who had fallen bleeding. After killing his wife and second son, Mr. A finally finished the recording, saying to himself, "AdiĆ³s, bye."
In a trial held in December 2022, the perpetrator A admitted all charges raised by the prosecution. At this time, A claimed memory loss, but the victim's bereaved family claimed it was all false.
On March 31, 2023, he was sentenced to death in the first trial.
On May 12, 2023, the first trial court sentenced him to life in prison and ordered him to attach location tracking electronics for 30 years.
